When Roger and I decided to start our company, we considered many names. We ended up with Martin Waymire Advocacy Communications because, at that time, we were the best asset we could market.
If we were starting our company today, we probably wouldn’t go that way – because our best asset is not two tall ex-reporters, but a diverse team that brings a host of skills and extraordinarily varied knowledge to our many clients.
We are extremely proud of the Martin Waymire team. Andrea Ness, social media/web design/digital strategy rock star. Stacy Anderson, running the office like a fine Swiss clock. Amy Morris, connecting the dots with animal issues and urban policies. Rose Tantraphol, health care expert and communications strategist extraordinaire. Scott Swanson, a jack of all trades who just provided communications advice to a Supreme Court justice – that doesn’t happen every day. Naomi Burton, just a year with the firm, reminding us all that they grow the talent terrifically smart and amazingly hard working at Michigan State University.
We never forget our student practitioners from MSU. We get the best – and they get better because we offer them projects they can grow with, and drop them into our pool of powerful professionals.
Every member of our team has plenty of responsibility, and the tools to do the job – cell phones and tablets, computers at home and access to everyone. They have a great deal of latitude to make offers, solve problems and work on their own schedules. It’s not unusual to check emails at 7 a.m. to find two or three from our staff, generated late at night or early in the morning from wherever they may be.
