This holiday season, as part of our celebration of new beginnings at Martin Waymire, we asked you to help us vote for your favorite charitable organization that provides a fresh start for others in our community.
The votes are in and the winner is (drumroll, please)…well, everyone who participated. We really appreciate the engagement with the greater Lansing community that our Gives Project provides every year. This year was no exception, with over 400 people casting their votes. The top vote getter was the VFW National Home for Children, receiving 48 percent of all votes. This great organization serves as a living memorial to America’s veterans by helping our nation’s veteran and military families during difficult times. The VFW National Home for Children was founded in 1925 as a place where the families left behind by war — mothers and children, brothers and sisters — could remain together, keeping the family circle intact even when their serviceman didn’t come home. And it’s still a vital place for new beginnings.
The competition this year was tough. Other charities for this year’s Project Gives were:
The Greater Lansing Food Bank supports the Greater Lansing Food Bank innovative initiatives to help those in need in our community such as The Garden Project and Lansing Roots.
The Women’s Center of Greater Lansing is a community-based organization that provides individualized, customized service to women with a goal of achieving economic self-sufficiency.
The Potter Park Zoo provides many classes throughout the year, and often to audiences who may not have the financial ability to attend them.
The MSU LBGT Resource Center leads and collaborates on university-wide initiatives that enhance campus climate and support services for students who identify as lesbian, bisexual, gay, and transgender at Michigan State University.
On behalf of all our clients, friends, and staff at Martin Waymire we’re proud to present the VFW National Home for Children with a check for $2,000. And because everyone’s a winner with Martin Waymire Gives The Women’s Center of Greater Lansing will receive $1,000, and The Greater Lansing Food Bank, MSU LBGT Resource Center and Potter Park Zoo will receive $500.
The Martin Waymire Gives project started in 2010. Instead of giving our clients gifts, we decided to give back to our community. All of these fantastic organizations will receive a donation from Martin Waymire, embracing the true meaning of the season.
So here’s to a new year of new beginnings at Martin Waymire, for these awesome organizations working to provide a helping hand and new start for others in our community, and to all of you that make what we do possible!
Thanks for making 2014 another banner year!
