At Martin Waymire, it’s no secret that our dogs are important members of the team. We understand how much impact furry friends can have on an individual’s life. And that’s why this holiday season, we decided to support other organizations that share our same values. As part of our MW Gives Project, Martin Waymire will be donating a financial gift and our PR expertise to support the efforts of Leader Dogs for the Blind.

Leader Dogs for the Blind, founded in Michigan, has grown to be one of the largest guide dog schools in the world. The organization operates out of its campus in Rochester, Michigan, and has over 500 volunteers from around the country working with leader dogs who then empower people who are blind or visually impaired. Together, the employees and volunteers work 365 days a year to provide tools and training to the visually impaired, as well as the dogs who support them.

Leader Dogs for the Blind believes every person deserves an equal opportunity for travel and independence, so all of its services are provided at no cost to clients. That’s right ― each year nearly 200 dogs are matched with clients with absolutely no cost to the clients.

The majority of the puppies that become guide dogs come from Leader Dogs for the Blind breeding stock and are primarily Golden retrievers, Labrador retrievers and German shepherds.

Leader Dogs for the Blind is 100 percent funded through donations. If you’re interested in donating or volunteering, checking out the website to learn more about how you can make a difference.
