Another great Gives Project
Our eighth annual Martin Waymire Gives Project has officially come to an end, but our gifts will keep giving all year. In case you missed it, this years ‘MW Gives Project’ was dedicated to helping Michigan read newspapers again.
Giving the gift of real news
With a budget of $5,000, we were able to:
- Donate 125 annual digital subscriptions to the Detroit News, Detroit Free Press and MLive to people who may not have been able to afford it otherwise.
- Gift annual digital subscriptions to the Lansing State Journal to 75 people, including 10 high school journalism classes in the Capital area in an effort to support budding journalists in mid-Michigan.
- Make a financial contribution to Bridge Magazine — which is free to subscribers — to help fund its award-winning news magazine.
While the 2017 MW Gives Project is over, we encourage everyone to support local journalism in whatever way you can.
Real news — real journalism — matters. It’s no secret that state and local daily newspapers have fewer reporters covering the news, and readership numbers have slumped. That’s a bad combination for democracy, especially as we head into the 2018 elections. Michigan needs watchdog reporting that holds elected officials accountable. Michigan needs readers who value fact-based, unbiased reporting.
