LANSING, Mich. — Martin Waymire, a Lansing, Mich.-based, full-service public relations and digital marketing firm with a focus on public policy, today announced the hiring of Randy Hannan as a senior account executive.
A veteran political and communications strategist with deep experience in state and local government, Hannan joins Martin Waymire after three years with Sustainable Strategies DC, a Washington-based lobbying firm, where he helped client communities in multiple states secure federal grants to promote economic and community development.
Randy brings 30 years of experience in strategic and crisis communications, public policy, government operations and media relations at the local, state and national levels. He has managed strategy and tactics for numerous political campaigns in Michigan, served as a chief of staff in the Michigan Senate, and wore multiple hats in Lansing’s municipal government as executive assistant to the mayor, chief of staff and communications director.
Long before the Flint Water Crisis, Randy played a central role in the effort to proactively remove the lead pipes from Lansing’s residential water system. In 2016, with support from the Martin Waymire public relations team, he led a successful effort to create Flint’s lead pipe remediation program and to secure more than $250 million in state and federal aid for the beleaguered city.
When General Motors Co. was on the brink of bankruptcy, Randy organized a national coalition of mayors and other local government officials who advocated for federal assistance for GM, Chrysler and automotive communities that would be negatively impacted by plant closures. The effort resulted in the Obama Administration’s formation of the RACER Trust, the largest environmental remediation trust fund in U.S. history, which is now cleaning up and redeveloping former automotive sites across the country.
“Randy’s broad experience and diverse skill set will be a tremendous asset to our firm and the clients we serve,” said Partner Roger Martin, APR. “We are delighted to add his talent to our award-winning team as we continue serving companies, organizations and campaigns that are making Michigan a better place.”
Randy is a graduate of Michigan State University’s James Madison College, where he studied international relations and economics. An avid photographer, outdoor enthusiast and longtime Michigan resident, he and his wife Amy live in Lansing, where they enjoy gardening, collecting antiques and raising monarch butterflies.
