Roger Martin, APR

Founder, Retired

Direct, objective, thoughtful counsel mixed with a flair for the creative and nearly 40 years of award-winning news media, public relations and marketing experience: That’s Martin Waymire founder Roger Martin, APR.

Once named Michigan’s “Best Reporter,” Roger moved from a high-powered position in big-city journalism to become one of Michigan’s most respected public relations practitioners

Top regional and national awards — including three national Silver Anvils and multiple “Best of Shows” — for writing, research, and campaign planning and execution decorate his walls. Roger is a 1981 graduate of Michigan State University, where he also taught journalism for about a decade and in 2020 was named an “Outstanding Alumnus” of the College of Communications Arts and Sciences for a career of success. While a reporter and bureau chief at The Detroit News, he won numerous awards, including three Pulitzer Prize nominations by the paper. He co-authored “The Journey of John Engler,” a 1990 book about then-state Sen. John Engler’s upset of heavily favored incumbent Gov. James J. Blanchard. He appeared as a journalist commentator on radio and TV political and issue programs across the state.

Roger specializes in issue management, media relations, crisis communications and community relations. He has provided winning counseling and services to corporations of all sizes, trade associations, coalitions and individuals. His areas of expertise include healthcare, tax policy, the state legislature and governor, electric utility communications, casino gaming, ballot question campaign planning and management, local government issues, and more.

A husband and father of three beautiful daughters and one granddaughter, Roger is also at home at the steering wheel of fast cars and the fretboard of hot guitars. To be able to enjoy time with his family, cars, and guitars, Roger retired from Martin Waymire at the end of 2021.
